Norman County Marriage Record Office
Marriage records and marriage licenses in Norman County are handled by the County Recorder, not Court Administration. The Recorder is Stacy Erickson, with Tessa Peacock as Deputy Recorder, at 16 3rd Ave E, Suite 104, Ada, MN 56510. The office phone is (218) 784-5481, fax is (218) 784-2399, and office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed on observed holidays.
The Recorder's official duties include marriage certificates, marriage licenses, marriage credentials, birth certificates, death certificates, real estate records, military discharges, notary public registration, and tax liens. That role is separate from Court Administration, which handles District Court divorce cases, certified divorce decrees, and family court records.
The Norman County Recorder page is the county source for marriage-license and certificate fees.
The Minnesota Official Marriage System is the statewide source for public marriage searching and the online first step for applications.
Recorder facts matter because marriage certificates and licenses do not follow the same route as divorce decrees.
Search Norman County Marriage Records
Norman County points marriage certificate searchers to the statewide Minnesota Official Marriage System, usually called MOMS. MOMS is the public marriage search and application system used for Minnesota marriage data. It can search statewide or by county where available, and it returns results with county, certificate number, marriage date, and applicant names.
The MOMS overview explains how the statewide marriage system supports public certificate searching.
MOMS helps searchers find certificate details before contacting the Norman County Recorder for a certified copy.
Norman County Marriage Search Fields
The MOMS search screen gives several ways to narrow a marriage record. The research captured the public search fields, but not a full hidden marriage-license application inventory. Do not treat the search form as the full application. The search form is for finding certificate records, while the license application is only the first step before both applicants finish with Recorder staff.

Apply for a Norman County Marriage License
A couple may complete the online marriage application at the Recorder's Office during normal business hours or from home or a mobile device through MOMS. If the applicants started outside the office, they give their names to Recorder staff so the application can be retrieved.
- Complete the MOMS online application from home, mobile device, or at the Recorder's Office.
- Both applicants appear at the Norman County Recorder's Office.
- Bring identification and any premarital education statement if seeking the reduced fee.

- Finish signatures and issuance with Recorder staff.
- After the ceremony, the certificate is returned and recorded through the Recorder process.

Certified Norman County Marriage Copies
A certified marriage copy comes through the Recorder, not the District Court. Search MOMS first if the certificate details are unknown, then use the county certificate number, applicant names, and marriage date when contacting the Recorder. The Recorder's office is also the place to ask about marriage credentials and whether a recorded certificate is ready after the ceremony.
Marriage records are useful for name changes, benefits, estate matters, proof of relationship, and agency filings. When a court matter also involves estate or family history, marriage records may need to be paired with probate or family court records. Probate files are handled through the Probate jurisdiction of Norman County District Court, while marriage certificates remain with the Recorder.
Find Norman County Divorce Records
Divorce is a District Court family case in Norman County. Divorce case records and certified divorce decrees should be requested from Norman County Court Administration, not the Recorder. MCRO may show public case information where remote access allows, but certified copies for legal use must come from Court Administration. Family case files may contain restricted financial, child, address, or confidential material, so the remote public view may be narrower than the official file.
The Minnesota Judicial Branch divorce FAQ says there is no citizenship requirement. At least one spouse must have lived in Minnesota for at least 180 days, or a spouse must be a member of the armed forces who kept Minnesota residency. Judicial Branch materials also say divorce can take several months before final. Statewide fee information lists Dissolution of Marriage with or without children at a $390 base total before any county-specific law library additions where applicable.
- Search MCRO by name or case number and filter to Norman County and family category if useful.
- If the case is not visible or remote data is limited, contact Norman County Court Administration.
- Request a certified divorce decree from Court Administration if a legal copy is needed.
- Do not request divorce decrees from the Recorder, because the Recorder handles marriage certificates and licenses.

The divorce FAQ supports the District Court route and keeps divorce records separate from Recorder-held marriage records.
Marriage Records vs Divorce Records
The office split is the most important Norman County marriage and divorce records detail. The Recorder handles marriage certificates, marriage licenses, marriage credentials, vital records, real estate records, military discharges, notary registration, and tax liens. Court Administration handles District Court case records, including divorce files, decrees, hearings, certified court copies, and case-status questions.
Marriage certificate: Search MOMS and request the copy from the Norman County Recorder.
Marriage license: Start the application through MOMS, then both applicants finish with the Recorder.
Divorce decree: Search MCRO where available, then request certified copies from Court Administration.
For certified court copies beyond divorce, Court Administration is also profiled on the Court Administration / District Court Administrator page.
